Barbara Snead (b. 1933), of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, served in the United States Air Force as a WAF (Women in the Air Force) from 1953 to 1955. Barbara Snead was born in 1933 and grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school, she worked for a year as a keypunch operator for Armstrong Core Company, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force as a WAF. After completing basic training, Snead was sent to New York Community College in Brooklyn, New York for training as a dental lab technician for nine months. While there, she met her future husband.
